About Us
Our Philosophy
Our philosophy at the Children’s Center of Wakefield is guided by the basic understanding that each child is a unique individual with differing needs. The growth and development of a child requires creative interaction with teachers and peers in a positive learning environment. The whole child is nurtured in a gentle, constructive caring atmosphere, where social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth is encouraged. Our school strives to create just such a climate where children can develop confidence, sensitivity, and a healthy self-esteem.

Our History
The Children’s Center of Wakefield opened in 1980 by Audrey Goldstein and her husband. It began in 2 rooms in a house at our current location and was staffed, initially, by two teachers and a teacher/director Claudette Logan who served twenty-three infants, toddlers and preschoolers. By the next year the program had expanded to include another classroom and 15 more children. Over the next 6 years, CCW grew to need the second floor which became the preschool program. The center now included an infant room, 2 toddler rooms, and 3 preschool rooms, caring for up to 64 children a day. In 1987, Audrey sold the program to Rhonda Shear who continued to own and operate the school in the same capacity until 2012.
In January of 2012, Rhonda sold the center to become an affiliate of James F. Farr, Inc. Farr is a private, non-profit educational corporation which administers five programs: Farr Academy, which is an academic-therapeutic secondary school program serving behaviorally disordered, emotionally disturbed and learning disabled youngsters from Cambridge, Boston, and surrounding communities; Brookline Infant Toddler Center located in Newton, Kids-A-Lot located in Stow and Rainbow Kids located in Norton. All these programs are developmentally based educational childcare centers for children 6 weeks through kindergarten entry. In joining James F. Farr, Inc., BITC gained administrative and financial stability, while maintaining the high quality of its staff and program.
